Queries

Query : Quite often contractors and workers leave messes while they are working and afterwards for me to clean up. It’s always annoying that they leave it for me to clean up.  Is this what I can expect from you too?

Answer :  Not at all! While during the work there can be a mess, I will contain what I can and clean up often. I really need to keep the area clean to avoid knocking over the wall I just built, ruining the garden, or creating more mess in adjacent areas.

Saying this, sometimes messes cannot be helped. Importantly though, I will always cleaning up after myself when the job is finished.  Always!!

Query :  What happens when it rains, do you keep working? What happens to the bricks in the rain?

Answer : Usually I cannot work in the rain as the brick work not only gets dirty but the rain’s moisture prohibits proper forming of the brick to the mortar, creating off lines (off measurements). I cover the brickwork, making sure no unnecessary moisture, dirt creeps in; returning when the area, weather is dryer. Sometimes when space is available and the rain is light, I can put up a large tarp to work underneath.

Query : I noticed when we were having our extension built, the bricklayers took a couple days off after the walls were only chest height.  Why? Doesn’t this make the job take longer?

Answer : Brickwork needs a strong, stable foundation to not fall over, destroying the work itself, the building, and/or persons. After bricking buildings and wall foundations up chest height, the work is then left to fully dry before building upon. This enables a strong foundation build upon. If the work is continually built up, well you can imagine the problems that will occur.

QueryIf you take longer to do the job than first quoted, will this cost me more?

Answer : Not at all the price quoted is for the full job regardless of how long I take. Sometimes it takes longer because of weather, or another part of the work isn’t finished, or I found to do the job right I needed more time.

Query : Why is brick and block maintenance for your home or business important?

Answer :  Maintenance work is the most over looked aspect in keeping your property damage free, structurally sound and moister free.  Water seeps in between the bricks to wear the mortar away over time, creating the need for repairs.
